A few random notes to make playing MUNCHER more enjoyable:
Sound and Color
---------------
MUNCHER has lots of sound effects and flashy colors. Sometimes the
sound can be a nuisance, and on some monitors the colors are
unreadable, so ways are provided to get around these minor
problems.
To suppress sound, put "/NS" in the command line (can be upper or
lower case.)
To suppress color (desirable with composite monitors,) put "/BW" in
the command line.
Examples: MUNCHER /NS Kill sound effects
MUNCHER /BW Kill color
MUNCHER /NS /BW Kill sound and color
Sound CAN be toggled on and off (regardless of whether the game was
started with the "/NS" option) by pressing the F3 key while playing
the game.
Color CANNOT be toggled back on after starting the game with the
"/BW" option. You must restart MUNCHER to get the colors back.
Game Speed
----------
You can change the speed of the game using the F5 and F6 keys. F5
SLOWS the game down, and F6 SPEEDS it up. The current game speed
is displayed near the bottom left corner of the playing screen.
The range is from 0 (very slow) to 15 (fasten your seat belts!) So
you can play the easy screen at a fast speed, or try out the harder
levels at slower speeds. I suggest you use F5 or F6 to select your
favorite speed before actually playing the game. Do this just
before you press an arrow key to start the MUNCHER moving. Try it
- it's easier than it sounds!
Scoring
-------
You get 5 points for each note the MUNCHER gobbles. On the easy
screen, at speed 11, I've reached 360 points, and that took about a
zillion tries. I'm not much of a game player, but I sure have
gotten hooked on this little number. Enjoy!
